Men's 1st Team Update

Clive, Nathan and I would like to welcome all the new boys joining us this year and those loyal squad members returning for another season, as we look to bounce back up to the Northern Premier league.

Pre-season is never going to be on anyone’s bucket list, but no one could fault the effort and intensity the boys have put in over the past 2 months. They have all put in a big shift with trainings and games coming at them thick and fast, in order to prepare them for a long season.

As coaches we think we have done a great job assembling a very competitive squad and if we can keep everyone off the physio table we will be looking to be serious contenders for promotion come the end of the season. In saying that, the NRFL Division One this year is extremely competitive. The likes of Melville with Mainey and Sammy, Waiheke with Malcolm, Fencibles with Sykesy, North Shore with Paul Harkness, just to name a few, will all be pushing for those two promotion places also and no game will be taken lightly. I think in the league this year anyone on their day could beat anyone - which will make it fantastic viewing for any neutral supporters!

In terms of our squad, we’ve managed to keep a good core from last year mixed with some young lads coming through the youth ranks at the club while also being able to sign some veteran players to help strengthen the squad in key positions.

We would like to welcome:

Damien Mosquera, who joins us from Glenfield Rovers - he offers us a strong presence up front alongside Ryan Morrow, and they should be a tough duo for other teams to contain.

Jake Mathews has seen the light and crossed the bridge for the first time in his career. Jake’s talents are unquestionable, if he can keep injury free then he will be a great attacking threat for us.

Allan Pearce has joined us as a Physio/Player. Allan has a great clinic up the road from Becroft (Dynamic Physio - Mairangi Bay). He has his hands full with a new baby and a very busy clinic, but he adds some needed experience that we believe will help give us a push throughout the season.

David Featonby has decided to bring his football back to the shore after spending a few years at Metro. Dave is a very versatile player who can fit in in midfield or across the back four.

Dan Campbell joins us super fit from a big summer of off season prep including a title winning season with Hago Signora and a half marathon. Dan has impressed the three of us during pre season with his attitude towards trainings and team atmosphere.

After winning the premier league and Chatham cup double last year, Jack Caunter, has bought his talents back to the Hill. Jack adds some much needed strength to our midfield.

Last but not least, we’ve been able to entice Blair Konik out of retirement. The former Three Kings Captain is fizzing to get back into it and has been doing a lot of rehab after some shocking luck with injuries.

We would like to welcome these new boys to the club and thank those returning for another season. We would like to thank the club for giving us the opportunity to lead these boys into an important season, and would like to thank the friends, families and supporters of the players and the club in advance for your support throughout pre season and the season to come. We hope to play some great football and make our mark in the league from the get go.

Here’s to a great season.

Thanks,
Sam Jasper
